
Overview
- Genetic testing is when a person’s DNA is evaluated for specific markers known as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) linked to different physical and psychological traits.
- The incredible advancements in techniques in the field of genomics have allowed for the cost of genetic testing to go from millions of dollars per person to less than $100 in only a few years. This has led to several companies offering inexpensive personal genetic testing.
- One company called 23andMe had an excellent interactive page on its website to teach about genetics and genetic testing. In this activity lab, you will go through the topic, learn a bit, and take short quizzes.

- Download the worksheet.
- You will see 16 squares with different images that look like this to the right
- Click on each square one at a time read the short amount of information and then click on CheckPoint for a single question to test your knowledge.
- There is a question in the worksheet that can be answered for each topic.
- If you start on the first one, you can click “next” to go to the next topic.
- When you complete all 16 topics, you will receive an image of a certificate of completion that says “Eureka.” Take a screenshot of the certificate and paste it into the final cell of the table within your worksheet.
