Overview
- Functional Neuroanatomy is the study of the different structures of the brain along with their theoretical function.
- In this activity, you will be visiting an interactive 3D image of the human brain at the website BrainFacts.org, which also has great articles about neuroscience.
- You will be given a worksheet containing a table with rows that correspond to a specific brain function and three columns:
- Column 1: The name of a brain structure
- Column 2: An image taken from the 3D brain with an arrow pointing at a specific structure.
- Column 3: A short description of the structure’s theoretical function.
- For each row (specific structure), there will be a missing cell(s) that you will need to fill in by using the 3D brain website. You may get a structure name in the first cell, and then you’d need to find the structure, take a picture, paste the image into the second cell, and then write the function of the structure in the third cell of that row.
- After completing this activity, you should be able to
- Navigate and use the interactive 3D brain function at BrainFacts.org
- Identify different structures of the human brain
- Describe the theoretical function of different brain structures.
Instructions
- Watch the ‘how-to’ video below. It will explain how to navigate the 3D brain and fill in the worksheet.
- Download on of the worksheets (v1 or v2).
- Visit BrainFacts.org for interactive 3D Brain
- Go through each row of the worksheet and use the 3D brain to fill in the missing cells. When filling in a cell on function, be sure to put the description in your own words.
